This painting is oil paint on canvas. It was inspired by the two girls I was living with this summer. I was subletting an apartment, and they were practically strangers. However I loved the way that their voices would carry through the house as they cooked together every morning. The title, "11:36 AM" is supposed to emphasize the singular moment in time that the painting represents. Minutes like these are so fleeting, so forgettable, but they are some of the most beautiful and tender moments of our lives. My process involved a series of sketches and small paintings, until finally becoming the 60" tall canvas. A blue underpainting shines through the oil paint. The paint is thick and textured.
