As a dedicated gardener for years, Jean Parks prefers to evoke nature rather render it in her paintings. Surrounded by the beautiful Connecticut countryside, she is able to derive from it constant inspiration. Layering paint and mulberry paper on canvas or paper and sanding in between coats creates a textured 'landscape' that reveals top and bottom layers simultaneously. Digging, weeding and layering compost in the garden, 'playing in the dirt', is really the same as playing with paint and paper.
