Claudio’s background
Having grown up in Italy, art has always been an integral part of Claudio’s daily life. Art runs within his family. His mother is talented painter; his father is an avid art collector and his grandfather's renowned craftsmanship as a goldsmith fueled his exposure to the world of artistic expression.
Although Claudio has not pursued formal art education, throughout his artistic development, he has drawn inspiration from various influential movements and artists. The Social Realism and Expressionism movements of the 1930s, championed by visionaries like Lewis Hine and Bruno Caruso, have left an indelible mark on his creative vision. Additionally, environmental and performance artists such as Agnes Denes and Ana Mendieta have infused his work with a deeper appreciation for the relationship between art and the environment. Claudio also finds inspiration in the works of masterful artists like Caravaggio, Fontana, Munch, and Grant Wood. These diverse sources of inspiration converge to shape his artistic voice, blending elements of social consciousness, introspection, and a reverence for the rich artistic heritage that came before.
Claudio’s work
Claudio embarked on his artistic journey as a traditional photographer but has evolved into a conceptual mixed media artist with a penchant for reusing, upcycling, or reclaiming unconventional, often industrial, materials.
His current works underscore the symbiotic relationship between the frame and the image, viewing them as inseparable components. The frame does not exist without the image. The image does not exist without the frame. They are one. By combining unusual materials such as rust, cement board, used motor oil and wheat paste with original photographic compositions he strives to transcend conventional artistic boundaries.
