Julia Heck

Julia Berkeley is a painter based in Brooklyn, NY. After earning her BA at Loyola University of Maryland as a Studio Art Major, she began working in fashion designing women’s prints/textiles at Ralph Lauren. This environment was enriching and thrilling watching her work come to fruition. What she loved most was working alongside creatives, immersed in a visual world of story telling. However, this path felt limited. Ultimately, she decided to explore an independent direction.  She now paints full time exhibiting in various group and solo shows in galleries, contemporary art fairs, art centers and storefronts. She has worked with various interior designers and independent clients on painting commissions.

For as long as Julia can remember, art making is the place where she has felt most in touch with herself and surroundings. It is her meditation and prayer. Her practice and application of art making has evolved over the years as she strives to create with purpose.  Each environment, experience, relationship, or encounter has a role in shifting her attention.

Julia’s interest in health, nutrition and energy healing led her to Sourcepoint Therapy. First as a client, then as an aspiring practitioner. She didn’t expect it to entirely shift her relationship to her artwork. After completing trainings in Source Point Therapy at Succurro, her lens as an artist felt renewed and guided. Learning and living immersed in nature, reflection, meditation and community, she felt a new clarity in myself and my work. When returning to painting, the “seeking” for content, planning and expectations dissolved. She began to explore the 8 pt. star (a SP symbol holding the creative energy of the Blueprint of health) as a starting point. The 8 pt star introduced a new level of intention and focus to her practice. Color revealed in a fluid rhythm. The impact held in each color and gesture held her attention. Julia’s process became simple, clear, expansive and energizing.

A few years later, Julia finds her work ever-evolving and strengthening, still rooted in the 8pt. star and principles found in Source Point. Her creative practice is simply a window for contemplation. Vibrations felt in the mixing and placement of color allow her to reflect, resolve and restore her internal state. In sharing her work, she hopes to offer a space to do just that. A space for surrender, rid of projections. An invitation to begin again.
